I went to Botswana in July 2022 and was awestruck by the amount of Elephants there in the Okavango Delta. Botswanans are lovely people who are stewarts of the animals and somehow manage to stave off poachers. As Elephants are now considered endangered, this piece ironically plays with what we deem as precious. A mother and baby elephant stand on display on a womb like stage. A theatre of characters, some clapping, some praying, gaze at them from the balcony. Have they come to revere them? To be entertained? Or to covet them as profit? All of this neatly fitted into an evening dress.
