Lovers in the Time of Forest Fires
2022
Acrylic ink, spray paint, Flashe & pastel on 300 lb Arches cotton rag paper
16"x12"
There is an urgent emotion present in this piece that compliments its beauty. Created at an artist residency in the Canadian desert of central British Columbia, I reflected the neon colours of the surrounding forest fires, now a yearly occurrence due to a heating planet. I play with metaphor by building the lover's faces with the surrounding forest environment so that they are indistinguishably made of the same stuff. The lovers lips are locked together in a desperately permanent embrace. The neon and iridescent pigments change in different light.
