I started Time Traveller in anticipation of visiting the ancient temples on the Nile in Egypt. I've always been fascinated by ancient Egyptian art. So much so that as a child, I drew everything flat and 2-d with Egyptian eyes and stances. When visiting the Temples, it seemed as if time hadn’t passed and it was easy to imagine the life of the pharaohs and the ancient Egyptians. With this piece I wanted to capture the feeling of travelling through time just by viewing a remnant of our history. 

In this work, it’s as if the Traveller is hovering within two or three historical time zones. The narrative works counter clockwise. Moving through time, the Traveller gazes at the goddess Hathor in the foreground. In the background, two procession boats on the Nile dock during a ritual celebration. The Idol itself is an imagining of what the goddess, who perhaps would become Hathor in a later period, could have looked like during the time in between the Mesopotamian and Egyptian civilizations. 

This piece is on thick cotton rag watercolour paper with frayed edges. The iridescent pigments sparkle and glow with changing light.
