Eve is Adam and Adam is Eve and God is a Manta Ray
2017
Oil, acrylic, glitter on panels
48"X96"
Quite allegorical, a queer trans person of colour is sent overboard, into a treacherous sea and left to save themselves. Depending on which direction the panels face, the character is either swimming to the surface or drowning. The Manta Ray is a docile, beautiful and endangered creature and so I thought a worthy companion to and metaphor for the character in this piece.
This work was built in two pieces and is meant to be interacted with. The panels may be changed and rotated, deconstructed and constructed again on the wall by the viewer. This action is symbolic of the precarious position of LGBTQ people globally.
